Our Approach to Independence

Animate. Care. Educate.

A Pedagogy-Led Model

At Canaries Solutions Ltd, our work is guided by a pedagogy-led approach — the art and practice of accompanying young people in their personal development and independence journey.

Pedagogy means more than supervision. It means caring for and about young people, walking alongside them, and bringing learning into everyday life experiences.

Every interaction, house meeting, key working session and daily routine is designed to build confidence, resilience and life skills.

Here's what we focus on

Animate

Encouraging young people to take ownership of their goals and actively shape their future.

Care

Promoting wellbeing, respect and emotional resilience through supportive relationships.

Educate

Helping young people reflect, commit and act toward independence.

The Journey to Independence

We use a structured workbook-based approach that enables young people to have full ownership of their development. Each young person leads on their support plan, with guidance from staff, ensuring progress is meaningful and measurable. We work with young people using the following approach.

From Support to Independence

Independence doesn’t happen overnight. It develops through guidance, structure and real-life experience.

Independent Living

Our focus includes:

  • Managing money and budgeting
  • Maintaining a tenancy
  • Emotional regulation and resilience
  • Communication and conflict resolution
  • Education, employment and training preparation

Our approach balances care, structure, and accountability.

Consistent Key Working

Through regular sessions, young people:

  • Review progress
  • Reflect on challenges
  • Develop problem-solving skills
  • Contribute actively to planning and decision-making

This ensures young people remain central to their own development.
